Click over 42 million (-170) <1.7/1> WSEX
Line was exactly where I thought it would be, so only a small play on the over. This is the first weekend since mid-May where the line didn't seem off to me and in fact, is what I estimated it at. With Click having a very wide release (the biggest of Adam Sandler's career) of 3,748 theaters, the studio is definitely hoping this movie lives up to Sandler's previous box office smashes and I think it will. The marketing has been terrific as T.V. spots have been going around the clock for weeks, building the target audience's anticipation. Last time out, Sandler starred in The Longest Yard, which debuted over Memorial Day weekend last year in 3,634 theaters with a whopping 47.61 million (a 13,100 per theater average). While Click may not reach those heights because of a non-holiday weekend, it should still sail past the 42 million needed for the over and debut with about 46.85 million (a 12,500 estimated average). One thing to note, when Adam Sandler is given a 3,000+ theater launch, only one of his last five movies did not have a per theater average better than 11,205, which is what is needed for the Click over. Good luck all!
